Martial Artist Goes to Show Searching for Crowdkiller Who Murdered His Master

MILWAUKEE — Scorned martial artist Ryan Bradford attended a hardcore show at the Cat Box last night, seeking retribution against the crowdkiller who murdered his master, multiple witnesses confirmed.

“Sensei Chuck went to a show at this den of iniquity to relieve stress from his rigorous training,” said Bradford, clad in his pristine white gi. “While here, a man clad in camouflage shorts and a backwards cap ambushed Sensei, ending his life with many ferocious roundhouse kicks to the skull. This cold-blooded murderer will not escape the fury of my fists.”

“I know he is nearby,” Bradford added. “I can smell his fear.”

Frequent showgoer and Cat Box mainstay Jimmie Clines witnessed the murder, but maintained the fault lies squarely with the deceased martial arts instructor, rather than anyone else who went to the show.

“Yeah… that dude shouldn’t have stood by the pit if he didn’t want to get hit. This is a hardcore show, man. Shit like that happens,” said Clines as Bradford stalked the venue in search of the man who struck down his master. “The guy was wearing sandals, for fuck’s sake. He got what he fucking deserved: totally annihilated. I mean, shit — there’s even a sign that reads ‘Mosh at your own risk’ right above that spot where Big Frankie’s head got put through the wall at the last Righteous Fury show. That ‘master’ or whatever did it to himself.”

Others, such as venue owner Brandy Milner, withheld their opinion on the incident but criticized Bradford’s handling of it.

“Listen, I don’t know what happened that night — and honestly, I don’t give a fuck,” Milner said, her statement punctuated by a shattering beer bottle. “But if these dudes have beef, they need to settle it elsewhere. If any more ‘Five Deadly Venoms’ type shit happens in here the cops are gonna shut us down.”

“And it’s totally not my business,” Milner added, “but honestly, if this Sensei Chuck couldn’t counter a few kicks from an out-of-shape hardcore kid, maybe he wasn’t such a great Sensei.”

Bradford, continuing his endless quest for vengeance, was last seen being casually stomped out by three men in combat boots after accidentally knocking the drinks out of their hands.

Kevin Feige Announces First Marvel “What If…?” Story Will Explore What If Captain America Was Straight

LOS ANGELES — President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige revealed today that the first episode of the upcoming Disney+ show What If…? will explore an alternate reality in which Steve Rogers is straight.

“These stories are our place to include the wackiest version of the MCU our writers can think of, so it makes perfect sense to start strong right out of the gate with the bizarre notion of Straight Captain America,” Feige said at a press conference this morning. “The fun of What If…? is to go down the rabbithole and see the universe-wide ramifications of small changes. What if it was Ned who got bit by the spider instead of Peter? What if Pepper Potts broke up with Tony before the events of Infinity War? What if Steve Rogers wasn’t trapped in a beautiful, yet tragic love triangle between Bucky Barnes and Falcon? These are the kinds of stories we’re able to tell only on Disney+.”

Although Feige promised not to give any of the plot of the episode away, sources from inside Marvel Studios have revealed some key plot details.

“Basically the entire plot of Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War make absolutely no sense if Steve isn’t in love with Bucky. So the butterfly effect there is huge because the Avengers never break up, and, after defeating Thanos, Steve goes back in time to live out his life with Peggy Carter except it’s not weird and sad and filled with longing,” said an inside source who asked to remain anonymous out of fear of repercussion from Marvel. “OK, I gotta go now, they’re asking me to get back on set for the next Spider-Man movie.”

As of press time, Feige released an even bigger bombshell, revealing that the second episode of Marvel’s What If…? will cover the devastating effects to the Marvel Universe if Tony Stark decided not to have a goatee.

Newly Fired Metal Guitarist Must Shave and Return Braided Beard Before Leaving Band

MINNEAPOLIS — A guitarist for local metal outfit Goat Theory was fired last week, forced to shave his beard and return it to the group before leaving in a final act of humiliation.

“I’m just glad my parents aren’t alive to witness this shame,” lamented newly-ousted guitarist Rich Bianco. “I thought I made tenure after my fourth braid… but it just goes to show how tenuous the music business is. I guess the band deemed me a risky bet after I started doing heroin on stage.”

Members of Goat Theory agreed to comment following the dismissal of their most recent axeman.

“Mr. Bianco did not meet the rigorous standards we at Goat Theory painstakingly carved, hewing to our mission statement over the many years we’ve labored as a band,” noted Goat Theory drummer Mikey Laubach. “Plus, he always kind of smelled like egg sandwiches and patchouli. It was off-putting.”

“We probably should’ve made him wash the beard before returning it,” agreed frontman Will Lister, “because this thing is filled with crumbs and small bugs.”

Goat Theory management agreed that the change was necessary.

“Bianco was a loose cannon,” explained Goat Theory manager Clive Barnitzki. “I’m no angel myself, but when you get ready for a gig by literally taking a bath in vodka, then drinking it all, you may have some personal issues to address.”

Already waiting in the wings of Goat Theory’s practice studio space, taking numerous selfies, was the freshly-hired shredder Maurice Akerfeldt.

“This is beyond surreal!” exclaimed Akerfeldt. “I mean, Goat Theory! Hello?! I only have a soul patch at the moment, but the dudes assured me they’d allow me to grow my first braid after proving myself on stage. Hey, a guy can dream.”

This is just the latest in a string of major changes to the Minneapolis metal scene this week: yesterday, drummer Terry Maxwell of thrash metal mainstays Toxic Malevolence voluntarily surrendered his white Reebok hightops and cut-off jean shorts and is expected to pursue a full-time career in bartending.

Probably Cultural Appropriation: Jonathan Davis Isn’t Even Scottish

I am probably outraged! I just got back from seeing this amazing band for the first time whose music saved my life many times growing up, yet I left feeling dead inside. My insides trembled heading the iconic opening riff of ‘Blind’ only to be possibly devastated when my hero, the Irish-English-Welch-German singer of Korn, Jonathan Davis took the stage wearing a kilt and playing bagpipes.

Mr. Davis: you are canceled, probably.

As a member of the sacred Scottish ethnicity, I feel like I should maybe be outraged at this careless display of a mixed-white man parading around in the clothes of my ancestors like it’s a fucking costume. In that moment I had never been so inconsolably ambivalent.

Even worse, it turns out he actually PLAYS the bagpipes on stage. I knew they used bagpipes on their albums but I had reasonably assumed the band flew out authentic Scottish monks to play basic melodies over nursery rhymes.

I will concede one point- Mr. Davis is technically one 5th Scottish. Blah blah blah. Yeah, and I’m 1/64th Native American but you don’t see me bringing that up except on social media. Keep that shit on Facebook, you filthy milk-skinned mutt.

The one moment of respite I felt during my horribly indecisive ordeal was when Jonathan Davis changed into an ADIDAS tracksuit. You know, like those silly Russians wear. Hahaha that culture is so funny.

Anti-Fascist Black Metal Band Only Advocates Indiscriminate Mass Slaughter

NEW YORK — Self-described anti-fascist black metal band Ornamental Sun admitted that, although the group’s lyrics often detail horrifically violent scenes of dismemberment and torture on an epic scale, the band only advocates indiscriminate mass slaughter not directed at any particular group, sources confirm.

“It’s 2019 and there’s no place for hate in our scene,” said Ornamental Sun singer Morgan Bekrad. “That’s why it’s important for me to clarify that the numberless, drained corpses in our song ‘Blood Moat’ haven’t been targeted because of their beliefs. In fact, when it comes time to fill the blood moat, the war god Tefnut just points his fiery sword and slays whatever random person is in the way, regardless of whether they are a vile criminal or a choir boy.”

Bekrad went on to stress the importance of inclusivity at the band’s live performances.

“There is a zero tolerance policy for bigotry of any kind at our shows,” said Bekrad. “When I sing, ‘I will wear your skin into battle,’ in our song ‘The Teeth On Which You Choke Shall Not Even Be Your Own,’ I want everyone in the crowd to feel that it could be their skin I’m wearing, no matter what color it is.”

Some in the metal community, however, object to Ornamental Sun’s activism, claiming that metal is no place for social justice.

“I just think people should keep politics out of metal,” said scene regular Sebastian Vorcover. “Metal is an escape from the real world, so it shouldn’t address real world issues, especially issues that don’t directly affect me personally. When you think about it, it’s almost like us white people are really the ones being oppressed. Did I mention I’m an equal opportunity offender?”

Detractors aside, Ornamental Sun will press on with what they deem a very worthy cause.

“Most of us got into metal in the first place because we felt like social outcasts in one way or another,” said bass player Lord Odent Fiscerine. “I think the unspoken theme of our new album Intestinal Liquefication is that all of us will suffer, but no one deserves to suffer more for who they are.”

“Except Nazis. We’re cool with whatever you want to do to them. Seriously,” Fiscerine added.

Nintendo Executive Solemnly Reports Last N64 at Shitty McDonald’s Has Finally Stopped Working

KANKAKEE, Ill. — In a mid-afternoon press conference, Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser confirmed that the last Nintendo 64 console installed at a shitty McDonald’s had finally stopped functioning.

“It is with a heavy heart I join you today, in order to officially confirm that the Nintendo 64 units at this location have ceased to operate,” said Bowser, speaking from a makeshift podium in the corner of the local McDonald’s, the final one to have a functioning Nintendo system. “We want to thank our loyal customers for all your support throughout the years. I truly believe that Nintendo has the best fans in the world. Right here, at this shitty McDonald’s, you proved that every day.”

To his left was the transparent plastic casing on the gray 64-bit system, which had recently died while a small child was playing Super Mario 64. Bowser leaned over with a solemn expression and placed his hand on the casing for a moment. A large serving of Sprite could be heard sputtering from a neglected fountain machine nearby.

“Nintendo has seen adversity before — and overcome it,” Bowser continued, his voice cracking as he finally withdrew his hand from the dead N64. “We survived the 16-bit wars with Sega. We survived the Virtual Boy debacle. We survived that mid-2000s era when everyone realized that we have no idea how the Internet works. And we will survive this. In fact, we will emerge from it stronger. And re-release all the best N64 games a few more times on future systems anyway.”

As Bowser began unscrewing the display unit casing from the wall, nearby teenager Jonathan Lively pounded his fist on his grimy dining table.

“This fuckin’ sucks,” Lively muttered, no longer able to contain his mourning. “What am I supposed to play now? That stupid coin-prize game at Burger King?”

Dave Mustaine Rejoins Metallica to Create Supergroup, by Proxy Kicking Out Kirk Hammett, Who Rejoins Exodus to Create Supergroup, by Proxy Kicking Out Gary Holt, Who Re-Rejoins Slayer to Create Supergroup, by Proxy Resurrecting Jeff Hanneman, Who Rejoins Kerry King in Beautiful, Repentless Embrace

LOS ANGELES — A flurry of legendary thrash bands returned to their original form today after guitarist Dave Mustaine signed a contract to rejoin Metallica 36 years after being kicked out of the group, multiple sources scrambling to make sense of everything confirmed.

“It started just like any of our other projects do: we were running short on clams, and needed a quick and easy way to make a boatload of buckaroos without any actual work,” said James Hetfield, guitarist and singer of Grammy Award-winning metal band Metallica. “We are thrilled for the future of Metallica and all the dead prezzies we’ll reap from this reunion. Fans are just going to gobble this up and be like, ‘Please, please, Metallica! Take all the money I get from working in an auto body shop,’ or wherever all these rubes work.”

Immediately after Mustaine signed to confirm a one-time studio album and tour with the supergroup now known as “Megatallica,” the room filled with a blinding flash of light, blasting now-former Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett out of the room.

“At first, I thought Lars farted again… but this had slightly less ‘oomf’ to it than his usual rippers,” said Hammett, who had been in Metallica since 1983. “I was warped into a vortex and crashed into the middle of my old band Exodus’ rehearsal.” Hammett sighed, “I was actually psyched. When Mustaine came in to sign those papers, I wanted to do anything to get out of the room. That dude’s a dick. I don’t know how the hell the World Taekwondo Federation stood the guy enough to give him a black belt, but for some fuckin’ reason, he has one.”

Reports note the chain-reaction vortex thrust Gary Holt, the most veteran member of Exodus, out of the rehearsal and back into thrash metal band Slayer’s practice space, which he frequents every other Tuesday.

“It’s good to be here again,” said Holt upon his second entry into Slayer. “It just feels a little different… like, I think I remember being part of some other band. Ex-something? Ex-Machina? For the life of me, I can’t recall anything about it. Was she a robot?”

Witnesses claim the vortex ultimately ended at Pacific View Memorial Park and Mortuary in Newport Beach, Calif.

“I was taking a selfie, giving the devil-horns next to Jeff Hanneman’s grave,” said Slayer fan Joseph Miller. “The ground collapsed, and [Hanneman] crawled out, moaning about how hungover he was and asking for some Advil and a Coors Light. Then, he punched me in the gut and took the keys to my ’98 Mitsubishi Eclipse, peeling out of the cemetery screaming, ‘Kare-Bear! I’m coming!’ while frantically humming ‘World Painted Blood’ riffs.”

At press time, Iron Maiden’s Dave Murray was reportedly writing the same riff he has been for the last few decades and hoping nobody would notice.

Dear Scabby: What’s the difference between black metal and death metal?

Dear Scabby: I’m a metal dude from Mikwaukee who’s moving to NYC but I can’t afford to live in Greenpoint, where else can I find my fellow metal dudes living? -METALDUDE

Dear Metal Dude: Cities are just an amalgamation of the sitcoms and serial killers they produce. Moving from the birthplace of ‘Laverne and Shirley’ and Jeffrey Dahmer to the city that gave us ‘Taxi’ and the Son of Sam is a respectable but expensive decision. Compared to most neighborhoods, Greenpoint has an especially great metal scene mainly due to it’s icy Eastern European influences and also because the benzene-tainted tap water has made most residents averse to sunlight and happiness.

Proximity to a park is a major selling point for renters in New York, so why not take it a step further and live in the park. McGolrick Park is steps from venues like Saint Vitus, Warsaw, Brooklyn Bazaar and Syzmon’s Pediatric Dentistry, which transitions into a venue on weekends. The other option is moving to the outskirts of Bushwick where their take on metal is listening to AC/DC in a rockabilly bar named Hootenanny Tavern with your shirt off as you pick sawdust out of a chalice of PBR.

Dear Scabby: What’s the difference between black metal and death metal? -NOTAPOSER

Dear Not a Poser: The subtle discernment of these two subgenera is best described through a series of personified examples. At a party, Death Metal would be chugging beers and huffing nitrous oxide while Black Metal would be found skulking about the woods sipping on a glass of tepid milk mixed with vodka or arsenic. If threatened, Death Metal would attack you on the spot, whereas Black Metal would devise a months-long revenge plot ending in the crucifixion of your family pet.

As zodiac signs Black Metal would be a Scorpio or Capricorn while Death Metal would be a more extroverted tone-deaf sign, like an Taurus or Sagittarius. Lyrically, a death metal band would be yelling about a maggot infestation inside the brain of a forgotten nursing home patient or ejaculting into a placenta, whilst a black metal band would be more likely to read an ancient latin prayer backwards, thus causing the audience members dicks to shrivel up, detach and fall down their pant legs. I trust this helps, as it couldn’t possibly have been made more clear.

Dear Scabby: I’m a middle school student who’s into metal but I’m actually kind of well-accepted by my classmates, no one is scared of me and I have no trouble finding people to sit with at lunch. My dad used to tell me stories about how the kids in his class used to pass around rumors that he would rape stray cats and stuff, but my peers just follow me on Instagram. How can I become more of an outcast like my metal predecessors? -MISFITSIN

Dear MisFits In: Being considered evil used to mean something in this country, like that you performed a human sacrifice or ran for office, but now every dime-store satanist with a stack of tarot cards thinks putting ‘666’ in their instagram handle and reading ten pages of an Aleister Crowley book on the toilet makes them ruler of the underworld. Following in the footsteps of a cat rapist is no easy task, but there’s got to be a middle ground between being liked by your peers and sodomizing the neighborhood strays.

A metal group is only as successful as it’s death toll, so you’ll want to incite fear by starting a band in which one or more of the members die within the first year. This could be as easy as finding a terminally ill drummer or discovering the bassist is allergic to shellfish. Unfortunately, I doubt you have a murderous bone in your entire poser body. Enjoy living out the rest of your cursed existence as a functioning, well-liked member of society and putting the kibosh on your family’s cat-fucking legacy.

It’s Not My Job to Explain the Intricacies of Doom Metal but After I Fix Your Muffler I Will

I am not standing here in the garage of a Pep Boys because it’s my job to inform you about why Doom Metal is the greatest form of music. I’m standing here in my uniform, covered in grease, because you are paying me to fix your muffler. But rest assured, I will teach you all about the God-tier genre that is Doom Metal the moment I am finished.

Be patient.

Wow, you’re really gonna make me do it aren’t you? I know what you’re doing- standing there, looking in your phone all smug. Like you’re not subtly begging, borderline demanding, me to point out that, while Doom Metal sounds like simple drawn out tones, it is carefully crafted to inspire feelings of dread and fear in the listener.

Just let me do my job! Which, to reiterate, is fixing your muffler. Afterwards, I’ll convince you that you need new air filters even though you don’t and THEN I will grace you with the knowledge that only comes from devoting thousands of hours to listening and analyzing Doom Metal songs moment by moment in all their detuned glory.

No, your car is not ready yet! It would probably be ready by now if you let me finish working on it instead of silently asking me all these questions about Doom Metal. I can tell by the way you’re sitting in that waiting room chair that you’re a metal laymen who thinks Doom Metal has no established musical roots. I’ll have you know the genre is based off of early Black Sabbath- the root of ALL metal, probably.

Stop distracting me!

There you go again, scratching your nose all like, “Oh all doom metal sounds the same. Meh.” You sound so ignorant. I refuse to cave in to your demand for my emotional labor and I will NOT educate you about how Doom Metal uses blues scales seldom found in metal and that the bass and guitar tones are directly influenced by Phil Spector’s legendary ‘wall of sound’ production style. I refuse!

That’s it, I am not even going to look at you. I can’t fix your 2018 Accord if you’ve got me so distracted with your unquenchable desire to hear me talk at you about Doom Metal.

Oh wait, you had the 2012 Civic? Shit dude, sorry. Your car’s been ready for like an hour.

Everyone Nervously Avoiding Kirby Who Ate Louis CK

NEW YORK — Fans and performers at the Comedy Cellar last night reportedly kept their distance from comedy newcomer Kirby, following an altercation in which the Nintendo star swallowed Louis CK whole, thereby gaining use of his special ability.

Kirby reportedly objected to the club manager putting the disgraced comedian on his show, Kirby’s Clean Comedy for Cute Kids. Witnesses claim the argument between the two comics escalated until Kirby “got flustered” and sucked Louis CK into his gaping maw.

Everyone avoided contact with him the rest of the night.

“I was psyched to see Kirby out here at the Cellar trying comedy. The guy is an absolute legend in the video game scene,” said audience member Jess McCullers, 32. “But then I heard he inhaled Louie and gained his signature move, and now it’s like, as much as I love Kirby’s previous work, I’m not super comfortable being close to him.”

Other performers on the bill expressed similar hesitation.

“I’ve known Kirby a long time. We worked together in the Smash games of course, plus his cameo in Awakening back in ‘93,” said regular performer Link, looking across the room at Kirby, who had grown Louis CK’s trademark red goatee and sideburns. “I love the guy, but I’m keeping away from the comedians table tonight. Gonna stay down here where there’s witnesses. Fucking creep.”

“For someone who literally never speaks, I’m breaking my one rule to warn others,” Link said.

At press time, Kirby had taken the stage and started to tell the audience how hard the last 30 minutes had been for him.
