I Believe in Safe Spaces and I Will Kill for That Belief

I believe very strongly in the concept of safe spaces in the underground music scene. It’s imperative for all venues in this scene to be places where everyone can express themselves without fear of being made to feel uncomfortable, unwelcome, or unsafe because of their biological sex, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, race, religion, creed, level of ability, mental status, relationship status, transportation choice, level of income, level of outcome, education, family style, style, pet choice, eye color, age, height, social security number, occupation, hygiene, criminal record, record collection, or interest in CBS’ The Big Bang Theory.

There is no discussion to be had on this issue. The time for talk is over, and I am ready to kill for my belief.

Call-out culture is no longer enough. As a hetreosexual white ally, I take it as my full responsibility to stand up for, protect, and defend all the oppressed people I call my friends. If you want to come to a show I have booked and act like a macho cissupremist asshole, then we can step outside and settle this like men.

And don’t think I’m going to take it easy on you.

There has been a rage burning inside me since before I can remember, a rage at the patriarchy. It’s the same feeling of rage I got in 4th grade when Tony Mazzagatti shoved my head in the toilet and gave me a swirly. And in 11th grade when Sarah Axelrod turned me down for the prom. When I see some able-bodied asshole taking up too much space at a show I can’t help but want to bash his face in. But some people I can’t get through to, no matter how many times I beat it into their bigoted heads.

It’s time we get serious and start killing these people.

WHEN YOU DANCE TOO HARD NOT EVERYONE CAN ENJOY THE SHOW! If I’ve seen it once, I’ve seen it 100 times. How are you gonna stage dive when you weigh 200 pounds? Do these men have no conscience or concept of consequence?

I couldn’t take it anymore, only the SAFEST SPACES are good enough for MY SCENE. So I went out and I did the only thing that made sense to me. I bought myself a gun. And the next time you wanna throw your white privilege around at MY VENUE, I’m going to check your privilege for you by BLOWING YOUR FUCKING BRAINS OUT!

At the very least, I’m going to make a vague threatening post about you on Tumblr.
