Songwriter’s Fiancé Mistakenly Assumes Love Songs Are About Her

NANUET, N.Y. — Local woman Namya Gupta, the fiancé of indie-rock band Oxford Drama’s songwriter and guitarist, fully believes she is the inspiration behind the musician’s love songs, several concerned sources have confirmed.

“Chad [Marcus] is such a talented songwriter, and I’m so fortunate to be his muse,” Gupta said of her boyfriend. “He knows how I much I appreciate his music — which is why he wrote ‘I Love You As Far As I Can Throw You (And Baby You’re Underweight)’ after our first date four years ago. He asked me to be exclusive by serenading me with ‘Mono Mono Monogamy,’ and we’re even planning our first dance to ‘Fire When We Kiss.’ Maybe it’s a little tacky to use his song, but nothing could describe our connection more perfectly. I’m so lucky to be spoiled!”

When asked about the allegedly romantic lyrics, Marcus vehemently denied the allegations.

“Those songs are clearly an allegory for the fall of modern capitalism,” Marcus said. “I’m building worlds with my music! And if they were written about someone special, I guess you could say I’m writing lyrical love ballads to an egalitarian economic system. Anyone with any reading comprehension can understand that the songs are a collective call for the embrace of a transparent system of basic human decency.”

However, Marcus’s fellow band members had a different idea about the inspiration behind the songs.

“I always assumed the love songs were about his side chick in Philly,” said Oxford Drama bass player Anna Fitz. “I mean, at our show last month, he dedicated ‘Fire When We Kiss’ to a girl named Sarah… but maybe that’s what he calls socialism? I’m pretty sure it’s some girl he met on Hinge too, though.”

At press time, Marcus noted he and Gupta are planning to get married “sometime in the next three years.”
