LOS ANGELES — In the wake of the passing of Gloria Steinem, the groundbreaking journalist and feminist icon who founded Ms. Magazine, many prominent male podcasters of the manosphere ecosystem have paid tribute to her legacy by asking, “Wait, why isn’t there a Mr. Magazine?” manosphere sources report.
“It’s a double standard, is what it is: women-forward media for women who choose the bear over a man in the woods, even though men are fucking boss in the woods, and we don’t even get our own magazine. Start a men’s magazine, and you’re canceled, FACTS. Also, I heard she worked with Jane Fonda, and I can’t remember why, but I think that’s something that fucking pisses me off currently.”
After hearing a clip of the podcast, current Ms. Magazine staffer Jennifer Stewart exhibited a bewildered reaction.
“Wait, so they want to know why she founded the Women’s Media Center and not the Men’s Media Center? They keep mentioning periods, but do they know she wrote an essay called “If Men Could Menstruate”? Probably not, right? I feel like they would’ve turned into a weird conversation about who would bleed more. Then, for like twenty minutes, they debated who would win in a fight between a mountain lion and a coyote, and concluded it depended on what time of day it was. Fuck off. I just read the name of the podcast is the Masculine Mystique. I just can’t.”
Media Expert Emily Drak noted there are some options out there for men seeking magazines geared to their needs.
“GQ, Esquire, Men’s Health, Men’s Journal, MAXIM, Details, Playboy, Sports Illustrated, Cigar Aficionado, Golf Digest, Men’s Fitness. That’s just off the top of my head. Those supplement-hocking clowns can rest assured, publishing always has been and still is very much a male-dominated field. ”
