MONTECITO, Calif. — Former second lady of the United States Tipper Gore admitted that she only co-founded the Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC) after being denied a backstage pass at a Judas Priest concert in 1985, sources report.
“It’s embarrassing, but yes, that’s the real reason I started the committee,” Gore said. “I was a huge Judas Priest fan, and I just assumed that I would automatically be given a backstage pass at their Knoxville show since I was the wife of a U.S. Senator. However, I was completely turned away when I tried to join the band after the show, which was humiliating. It was then that I vowed I would get back at Priest, as well as every other heavy metal band, plus Cyndi Lauper, by starting an organization that would censor their music.”
Fellow PMRC co-founder Susan Baker reacted to Gore’s admission.
“It’s really aggravating that Tipper decides to reveal this to us now,” Baker grumbled. “I was really devoted to the PMRC when we started it because I genuinely thought heavy metal music was going to turn my kid into Ted Bundy. That’s usually how music works. I had no idea Tipper was just a jaded fan trying to get back at her favorite band. I suppose I should have caught on that something was up, though, when I walked in on her headbanging to ‘Jawbreaker’ in her office before one of our hearings. I just thought she was trying to get in the mindset of a teenage metalhead so she’d be better able to help them. I see now how naive I was, and I’m really upset with her for misleading me.”
Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford regretted his band’s past decision.
“The PMRC really gave us a lot of grief, so I wish we would’ve just let her backstage,” Halford noted. “I actually remember her being really annoying at that show and trying to shove her way past all the VIP ticket holders without having the proper clearance. She was being a real Karen, as they say these days, and we had her escorted out of the venue. Anyway, if I were to do it over, I just would’ve relented so we wouldn’t have to deal with all the censorship that followed her little hissy fit.”
At press time, Gore had also admitted that she only included Mercyful Fate on the “Filthy 15” because King Diamond had once denied her request for an autograph.
