I don’t think I’m alone in saying, “good riddance” and, “don’t let the door hit you on your way out” to 2016. 2016 was a mere 6 months ago, but it was also roughly 180 days ago. That 180 days has felt like an eternity and led to a lot of reflection about just how far we’ve come in that time. We’ve grown not only as a nation, but as a world. I think I speak for everyone and especially you when I say it’s time we recognized that it is the year 2017, and that’s what year it is.
We have waited long enough to start treating the year like it’s 2017, and if you’re not reassessing all of your 2016 beliefs in the context of 2017, then YOU are the problem. At this point, it’s been 2017 so long, I really shouldn’t have to be saying this. One need only look at a calendar to see what is plain to me: 2017 isn’t going anywhere. 2017 is here to stay, and the time has come that we started treating the year for what it is.
2017 is one more than 2016, and that’s one whole rotation around the sun more times than it was last year. If you can’t open your fucking eyes and see that’s its 2017, then you have no business expressing your opinions. All of the people online talk about the year like it’s 2016, or heaven forbid, 2015. Those years are not 2017 and they never will be. Get with the times, specifically the time of 2017.

“But it’s only six more months until 2018,” you might be saying. And you might be right. But until that day comes, 2017 is what I’m worried about, and I’ll die before I say it’s any other year. Frankly, I see no reason to think that 2017 isn’t going to be the year for two, three, even four years. It’s hard to believe things will change, but if 2018 ever comes, I’ll be the first one with my fist in the air, correcting you and reminding you that that’s what year it is.
